It is a relatively quiet evening, the lake is still under its coating of ice, the stars shine brightly.

There is nothing moving out behind Milliways.

Nothing at all.

Well, there's Peter. But he's not moving much.

Instead he's looking out at the water, hands in his pockets.

His bangs are fluttering in the breeze.

Something fairly small, but feathery and with a very sharp beak, snaps at them.

Raven is not laughing at all.

Especially not as he settles next to Peter, hands shoved into his own pockets.

Mimicking Peter?

Not this bird!

Peter yelps, and he's too distracted by his efforts to fend off his attacker to notice when it...turns into Raven.

He does notice Raven eventually, though.

"Oh. It's you."

Raven grins, cheerful and inoffensive.

Well. One out of two isn't bad.

"Yes. You are very good at remembering things, perhaps."

"What's that supposed to mean?" says Peter, more confused than annoyed.

Raven frowns slightly, also looking perplexed.

"Mostly what I have said, yes?"

Peter's forehead wrinkles as he tries to puzzle this out.

He abandons the effort.

"You never told me your name."

Raven blinks, nose wrinkling.

Then he grins.

"They call me Raven, I think. It is descriptive."

"'Cause of the clothes?" Peter's eyes flick to the coat.

It's kind of a cool coat.

"What's your real name?"

Raven laughs quietly, making a face at Peter.

"Raven, I think, is real enough."

He shrugs.

"I have been called so for quite some time."

Untold millennia, if he has to be accurate about it.

"Fair enough," Peter says amiably. In the absence of hair-ruffling, his petulance is fading. "I'm Peter. Peter Petrelli."

"It is a name you are fond of?"

Raven tilts his head, curious.

The motion is very definitely birdlike.

Peter frowns, thinking, and rubs the back of his head.

"Well, I'm pretty used to it by now. I guess it's okay. Do you like Raven?"

Raven grins.

"It is helpful, perhaps."

"Yeah, how's that?"

He tucks his hair behind his ears, and looks curiously at Raven. "Where are you from, anyway?"

Raven watches Peter for a moment, unblinking.

Then he skips his first question and moves right on to his second.

"You are, perhaps, knowing of Alaska?"

Peter blinks back at him.

"Yeah?"

Raven nods, looking smug.

"Yes."

"So...that's where you're from?"

Raven does not make conversation easy. For Peter.

"I've never been there," he adds. "What's it like?"

Raven grins, bright and true.

"Sometimes there is snow."

Beat.

"Also beaches."

Rocky beaches, much of the time, but still.

Okay, snow, yes, but --

"Beaches?" He eyes Raven askance. "Seems like kind of a cold place for swimming."

As does the lake in front of them. Peter edges away from it without really noticing.

Raven shrugs.

"Polar bears are mostly not for minding."

Not that this is particularly relevant at the moment, but--

"Well, no," says Peter, doubtfully. "I guess they wouldn't."

He tips his head to one side, studying Raven. "You're kind of a strange guy, you know that?"

Raven grins.

"That is almost accurate, I think."

Except for how Raven isn't really a guy.
