Solemn gold eyes are fixed on Mary Anne.

Pages rustle quietly, and the air smells of old dust and new flowers.

He lifts his head, blind eyes looking right at her--or they would be, if she could see within the shadows of his hood.

"And there will come a time for you to serve my interests. Most tend to recognize that moment after the fact, however."

Beat.

"And remember to take the left-hand path on your way out."

And then, shadowless and leaving no tracks, Destiny is gone.

"I'm sure I have no idea what you might be referring to, Lilly."

He's muttering to himself about Tricksters who can't hold their marijuana.
