It is a very good thing that Raven does not need to sleep.

He spends the night stitching patterns into leather armbands--blue for deflection, and yellow for luck. It is painstaking work, but necessary.

When that is done, he sharpens his knives. These, too, may be necessary. He finds himself hoping that they are.

A Letter

There's a letter waiting for Raven. It's lopsided, and in relatively illegible cursive, as though the writer was in the process of learning that he wasn't ambidextrous. It goes as follows:

Dear Raven,

I just wanted to say I'm sorry about running off yesterday and leaving you with the chicken pot pie. As you can tell, things in Amber are still very hectic, so I'll be dashing back and forth for a little while. Although I'm staying off the front lines of the effort till I can walk again, there are still people who need my advice (who would have thought I was a good tactician?)
I also wanted to ask about this 'Coyote' you mentioned. I saw them in the bar (though we didn't speak.) You seemed on edge about it all.
I should let you know, I think I've got a plan that may let me do something to help you, for once, since you've spent so much time taking care of me.
